Nigerian gospel singer Dare Melody recently opened up about the trials and triumphs shared with his late wife, Adedoyin Odunuga, who passed away in October at the age of 47. In recounting their journey, he praised Adedoyin’s steadfast loyalty and sacrifice, even amidst serious challenges, from family tensions to severe career setbacks.
Adedoyin’s love was a pillar in Dare Melody’s life, especially as he faced significant professional and personal obstacles. According to Melody, Adedoyin was there for him regardless of whether they had food to eat or not, providing him with both emotional and spiritual strength. Their bond was tested not only by the ups and downs of Melody’s career but by the family issues that weighed heavily on Adedoyin. Melody candidly shared how his own family members subjected her to “ill treatment,” causing her great distress.
In his speech at Adedoyin’s wake, Dare Melody openly acknowledged the struggles she endured, reflecting on how her presence gave him peace even amidst the turmoil. He often reassured her by saying, “I am the one you married, and whenever you see me, put your mind at rest.”
Facing Career Setbacks Together
The path to musical success was far from smooth for Dare Melody, whose career took a severe hit when a music promoter blacklisted him for four years. This decision was a heavy blow to the singer, virtually erasing his presence on the airwaves and preventing him from releasing new music. During this bleak period, Adedoyin remained by his side, even when they celebrated New Year’s Day with little more than biscuits to share with their young daughter.
The singer’s faith, coupled with his wife’s support, eventually helped him overcome this low point. Melody recalled how he prayed for divine intervention, asking God to demonstrate His purpose. The turning point came with the release of his record Goodness and Mercy in 2010, a hit that revived his career and re-established his place in the Nigerian gospel music scene.
