President Bola Tinubu touched down at the Tactical Air Command of the Nigerian Air Force Base in Makurdi at 12:58 pm on Tuesday, June 18, 2025, launching a visit aimed squarely at confronting a wave of violence that has claimed more than 100 lives in Benue State.
The Benue State government declared a public holiday for the occasion, showing the gravity of the situation and the administration’s determination to find a resolution.
In a statement issued Monday, Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, explained that Mr. Tinubu intends to “assess firsthand the recurring crisis that has claimed numerous lives and caused significant destruction.”
During his stay, he will convene with traditional rulers, political and religious leaders, community figures and youth representatives to craft a lasting response to the hostilities.
President Tinubu has already condemned the recent spate of attacks, urging residents and leaders alike to embrace peace, love and mutual understanding.
He offered his heartfelt condolences to the families of those who have been killed or displaced, acknowledging the deep scars the violence has inflicted on communities across the state.
Originally scheduled to travel to Kaduna State on Wednesday, June 18, for the commissioning of several government projects, the President’s departure has been delayed by one day.
According to his weekend itinerary, he will now visit Kaduna on Thursday, June 19, 2025, following the conclusion of meetings in Makurdi.
