Nigerian singer-songwriter Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, just secured her second Grammy Award at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards held at the Crypto.com Arena.
She won the Best African Music Performance category for her hit single Love Me JeJe, a reimagined rendition of Seyi Sodimu’s 1997 classic.
In her speech which she presented emotionally, Tems expressed gratitude to her mother, mentioning how important this is for her to win:
“Dear God, thank you so much for putting me on this stage and bringing me this team. Tomorrow is my mum’s birthday, and this is her first Grammy’s, and I just want to thank you, mum, because she’s really done a lot for me and my brother. I want to thank my team, thank you so much. To God be the glory because honestly, he’s changed my life so much. Thank you so much, thank you God.”
This accolade mark Tems’ second Grammy win, following her 2023 award for Best Melodic Rap Performance with Future’s “Wait for U” featuring Drake.
Her latest album, Born in the Wild, released in June 2024, further solidified her presence in the global music scene.
