The Taraba State House of Assembly has directly refuted claims circulating about plans to replace Deputy Governor Alhaji Aminu Alkali, who is currently undergoing medical treatment in Abuja.
Nelson Len, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, addressed the speculation during an interaction with journalists in Jalingo on Thursday. He stated unequivocally that the legislature is not considering any such plan.
Len clarified that Deputy Governor Alkali is expected to return to his official duties upon achieving full recovery. He urged the public to disregard rumours suggesting the Assembly was preparing to declare the Deputy Governor incapacitated.
“The general public should disregard the speculations that the assembly is preparing to declare the deputy governor incapacitated,” Len said.
He further emphasized that none of the state’s three arms of government – the executive, legislature, or judiciary – has initiated any process to remove or replace Alkali. Len confirmed that efforts are focused on supporting the Deputy Governor’s full recovery and return to office.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Deputy Governor Alkali has been on medical leave since November 2024. His prolonged absence from official duties had prompted concerns in some quarters, leading to the speculation dismissed by the Assembly.
