Son Allegedly Stabs Mother to Death Over "Destiny" Dispute

A shocking incident has thrown the Elebele Community in Ogbia Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, into deep turmoil. A 22-year-old man, identified as Godwin, has allegedly murdered his mother, claiming she was responsible for hindering his destiny and wealth. The tragic event occurred after a confrontation between the two, resulting in the son stabbing his mother in the stomach.

According to local residents, Godwin had recently returned to the community from Benin City, Edo State, where he had been living for several months. Those familiar with the situation reported that his behavior had taken a strange turn upon his return, with Godwin claiming that a native doctor had warned him that his deceased mother was obstructing his path to prosperity.

Precious Okala, the Youth President of Elebele Community, provided account of the events. He revealed that when community members arrived at the scene, they found the lifeless body of the woman. The youths quickly apprehended Godwin, who was still present at the scene.

“Residents informed us that ever since Godwin returned from Benin, he had been acting oddly. On that fateful day, there was a violent altercation between him and his mother, which escalated to him stabbing her with a knife. He was heard saying that a ‘Baba’ (a traditional healer) had told him that his mother was holding onto his wealth and destiny,” Okala said.

The Bayelsa State Police Command has taken swift action. Musa Mohammed, the State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrest of the suspect and stated that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
