Singapore has been named the country with the most powerful passport in the world for 2025, according to the latest Henley Passport Index.
The index, which ranks global passports based on the number of visa-free destinations they offer, highlights Singapore’s strong international relations and efficient consular services.
This year, Singapore takes the top spot alone, providing its passport holders visa-free access to 195 out of 227 global destinations. This marks a slight improvement of one additional destination compared to the previous year.
The Henley Passport Index, considered the authoritative ranking of passports worldwide, uses data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and research by Henley & Partners. It measures the travel freedom granted to citizens of each country based on visa-free travel, visa-on-arrival, or similar arrangements.
Japan, which previously shared the top position with Singapore, now ranks second. Japanese passport holders can access 193 destinations without a visa. This change is attributed to evolving visa agreements and diplomatic relations.
A notable development is the inclusion of visa-free travel to China for Japanese citizens, following years of restrictions.
