The Shooting Stars, under the leadership of head coach Gbenga Ogunbote, celebrated a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Sunshine Stars in a tense derby clash on Saturday at the Remo Stars Stadium. The victory marked a significant milestone as it was the Oluyole Warriors’ first away win of the season.
Coming into the match, Shooting Stars had faced two derby defeats this season, falling to Ikorodu City and Remo Stars. Ogunbote emphasized the importance of securing a win in this third derby, describing the potential consequences of another loss as dire.
“This victory is a big relief, having toiled for so many games,” Ogunbote expressed in a post-match interview with the club’s media. “This is the third derby we have played; it would have been suicidal if we cannot take a point out of the three derbies. I’m really happy that finally, it happened. We worked for it, and deservedly we were able to get it.”
