Former Super Eagles striker Samson Siasia has called on Augustine Eguavoen to relinquish his role as the interim head coach of the Nigerian national team. Siasia argued that Eguavoen, who also serves as the Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), should focus solely on one position to avoid conflicts and inefficiencies.
According to Siasia, it is impractical for Eguavoen to simultaneously manage the national team and fulfill his duties as the NFF’s Technical Director. He expressed this concern during an interview reported by Vanguard.
“Eguavoen already has a job as the NFF Technical Director. He should resign as the Super Eagles manager and concentrate on his main role. He cannot hold two positions at the same time. It’s important for him to decide which one to prioritize,” Siasia stated.
In addition to his remarks about Eguavoen, Siasia strongly opposed the idea of hiring a foreign coach for the Super Eagles. He emphasized that Nigeria has sufficient local talent to handle the team.
“We don’t want any foreign coach here because they are not coming to do anything. We have enough good materials at home that we should not be talking about hiring a foreign coach,” Siasia insisted.
While sharing his perspective on the team’s future, Siasia suggested that patience is required to assess the progress of the relatively young squad under Eguavoen’s leadership. However, he reiterated that Eguavoen should focus exclusively on one position moving forward.
“As for Austin Eguavoen’s future with the Super Eagles, I suggest we wait a while to see how the team develops. It is a very young team,” Siasia noted.
