The Presidency has dismissed reports claiming President Bola Ahmed Tinubu replaced the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.
A statement issued on Saturday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, declared the reports untrue. The Presidency stated that claims of Akume’s replacement were “fabricated by agents of mischief.”
The statement, titled ‘Akume remains SGF’, specifically read, “There has been no change in the status of His Excellency, Senator George Akume, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, currently in Saint Lucia, has not made any new appointments. The information circulating about Akume’s replacement is untrue. Agents of mischief fabricated it.”
The Presidency advised Nigerians to disregard the reports, calling them “fake news.”
This denial follows the resignation of Abdullahi Ganduje as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) approximately 24 hours earlier.
Amebo Media reported that Ganduje cited the need to take care of his health as the reason for stepping down. The Presidency’s statement did not link the two events.
