Policeman Caught Raping Female Suspect in Edo State Dismissed

The Edo State Police Command has dismissed Sgt. Abraham following allegations of assaulting a female suspect at the station. This incident has sparked controversy, as it involved multiple officers in an attempt to cover up the misconduct. The dismissal of Sgt. Abraham came after an internal investigation and an orderly room trial, marking a strong stand by the police force against such behavior.

Details of the Incident and Allegations of a Cover-Up

According to reports, Sgt. Abraham allegedly forced himself on a female suspect on October 7, 2024. The incident occurred within the police station where AP/no 228719 Insp. Edith Uduma was serving as the Charge Room Officer. Rather than immediately reporting the crime to higher authorities, Insp. Uduma instead contacted her husband, AP No. 228652 Insp. Ibrahim Mohammed, and together they plotted to cover up the incident in exchange for a bribe.

According to the investigation, Insp. Uduma and her husband demanded one million naira (#1,000,000) from Sgt. Abraham to suppress the incident. When the sergeant was only able to offer #45,000, the couple decided to report the matter to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and leaked a video of the incident to social media, revealing the scandal publicly.

Outcomes of the Internal Investigation and Dismissal of Officers

Following the public exposure of the assault and attempted cover-up, the Edo State Police Command conducted an orderly room trial for all officers involved. The trial concluded with the dismissal of Sgt. Abraham for his actions against the female suspect and Insp. Edith Uduma for failing to uphold police standards by not reporting the incident directly to superiors. Her husband, Insp. Ibrahim Mohammed, faced a demotion from Inspector to the rank of Sergeant due to his involvement in the extortion scheme.
