The Nigerian police have dismissed claims that a cyber criminal hacked into the Enugu State Government’s account and stole N1.09 billion.
The clarification came from police spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi on Thursday, describing the allegations as false and unfounded.
Reports had surfaced earlier, alleging that a suspect, Osita Onuma, infiltrated the state’s financial system and stole N1,097,700,300.
Mr. Adejobi, an assistant commissioner of police, stated that no such cyber breach occurred.
He explained, the National Cyber Crime Centre (NCCC) investigated a case of procurement fraud in Enugu. “The suspect involved has been arrested, and the stolen funds have already been recovered,” he confirmed.
He further noted that the Enugu State Government and its agencies are working closely with the NCCC to ensure robust security measures are in place to protect their financial systems.
Mr. Adejobi urged Nigerians to verify their information and avoid spreading misinformation, emphasizing the importance of relying on credible sources.
