Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk is preparing to revamp his tactical approach following a narrow 1-0 victory over Bodrumspor and the unfortunate season-ending injury to Mauro Icardi. Dissatisfied with the current defensive setup, Buruk is reportedly planning a shift that could see Victor Osimhen lead the attack as the lone striker.
In the match against Bodrumspor, Buruk employed a 3-4-1-2 system, pairing Osimhen with Michy Batshuayi in the attacking line. While the game ended in a win for the Yellow-Reds, courtesy of Batshuayi’s decisive strike, reports suggest that Buruk was unimpressed with the overall performance of this setup.
The Galatasaray boss is now considering a 4-2-3-1 formation, which would pivot to a single-striker system featuring Osimhen up front. Dries Mertens is expected to assume a creative playmaker role behind Osimhen, while options such as Yunus Akgün, Barış Alper Yılmaz, and Roland Sallai are in contention for wing positions.
Defensively, Buruk plans to retain the partnership of Abdülkerim Bardakcı and Davinson Sánchez in central defense. Full-back positions will be determined based on squad fitness, while Batshuayi, who continues to impress as a substitute, remains an integral part of Buruk’s bench strategy.
With Galatasaray aiming for both domestic and international success, Buruk’s tactical adjustments could prove pivotal in the team’s pursuit of glory. Reports have it that the manager is exploring potential January reinforcements to enhance the squad’s depth and adaptability.
