
Northern Governors have expressed deep sorrow following the death of prominent businessman and philanthropist Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata at the age of 94.
The Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF), led by its Chairman and Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, described Dantata’s passing as a “monumental national loss” marking “the close of a historic chapter in Nigeria’s economic journey.”
In a formal condolence message, Governor Yahaya stated: “It is with deep sorrow and a profound sense of national bereavement that I, on behalf of the Government and people of Gombe State and the Northern States Governors’ Forum, mourn the death of Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata. His passing marks the end of a remarkable era—an era defined by visionary enterprise, selfless philanthropy, and exemplary leadership.”
The Governor paid tribute to Dantata as “one of Africa’s most accomplished private sector leaders,” calling him a “symbol of integrity, humility, and service.” Yahaya highlighted Dantata’s role in Nigeria’s economic development, stating his life was “devoted to expanding commerce, creating jobs, and uplifting humanity.”
“Alhaji Dantata was not just a successful businessman; he was a national institution whose socio-economic contributions shaped the lives of millions. Northern Nigeria and the country at large have lost a pillar of support, a fount of wisdom, and a genuine elder statesman,” Yahaya added.
The NSGF Chairman extended condolences to the Dantata family, the people and government of Kano State, and all Nigerians mourning the loss.
The statement concluded with prayers for Almighty Allah to forgive Dantata’s shortcomings and grant him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus.
Alhaji Aminu Dantata was widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s foremost entrepreneurs and philanthropists, recognized for playing a significant role in shaping the country’s modern commercial landscape over many decades.
