The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has unveiled a new outreach programme aimed at curbing malnutrition among vulnerable children nationwide.
President of the Association, Professor Bala Audu, announced the initiative during a visit to the Gusau Orphanage Home, where he and the state NMA chairman donated essential medicines, food items and health education materials.
According to Professor Audu, the NMA Aid Foundation was established in direct response to the widespread challenge of child malnutrition and related illnesses affecting millions of Nigerian children.
“This programme represents a deliberate, purpose-driven effort to support the vulnerable, through healthcare delivery, nutrition and education, in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory,” he said.
Dr Ibrahim Hano, Chairman of NMA Zamfara State, urged caregivers at the orphanage to administer the donated drugs responsibly and to provide balanced meals that will promote the children’s overall well-being. He emphasized that proper use of these resources is crucial to the programme’s success.
Rashidat Dauran, Head of the Gusau Orphanage Home, expressed gratitude for the Association’s intervention.
“These supplies will directly benefit the children in our care,” she said.
The NMA’s campaign marks its first major deployment under the new Aid Foundation banner, with plans to replicate similar support activities across other states in the coming months.
