At the 2025 Lagos Future Conference themed “Future-Forward – Harnessing the Power of Youth, Innovation, and Technology for National Economic Growth,” the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Malam Kashifu Inuwa, called on Nigerian youths to capitalize on the nation’s accelerating digital transformation to create homegrown solutions.
Speaking through the Director of Stakeholder Management & Partnership, Dr. Aristotle Onumo, Malam Inuwa emphasized that Nigeria’s greatest asset is its people.
“Our true wealth lies not in natural resources, but in our human capital—in classrooms, co-working spaces, and innovation hubs,” he said.
He pointed out the resilience and creativity of young Nigerians, noting that local startups secured more than US$1.2 billion in venture capital funding in 2024, a testament to their “audacity to dream, to build, to reimagine.”
Representing the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Prince Ajibade Ayeni Omobalufon conveyed remarks from the Commission’s Chief Executive Officer, Engineer Abisoye Coker-Odusote.
He stressed the foundational role of identity in economic and social advancement.
“Identity is the key to opening doors, breaking barriers, and creating pathways to future growth and development,” the CEO asserted.
The Lagos Future Conference brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and young innovators to deliberate on strategies for leveraging technology in driving sustainable economic growth.
With Nigeria’s digital economy poised for rapid expansion, both NITDA and NIMC leaders urged participants to forge partnerships and pursue initiatives that will position the country at the forefront of global innovation.
