The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) in Delta has demolished a crude oil dump site used for illegal refining in Obotebe community, Burutu Local Government Area. The operation, carried out on Thursday, formed part of ongoing efforts to curb oil theft and vandalism in the Niger Delta.
Commodore Abdulazeez Zubairu, Commander of the NNS, told reporters in Warri on Saturday that naval personnel uncovered the site during routine patrols.
“We located containers and makeshift equipment used for illegal refining and immediately moved to destroy them,” he said.
The exercise was conducted under Operation Delta Sanity 11, in line with the strategic directives of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla.
“The destruction of this dump site sends a clear message that such activities will not be tolerated,” Commodore Zubairu stated, noting that further patrols and surveillance would continue uninterrupted to safeguard Nigeria’s maritime resources.
The operation follows a series of recent interventions by security agencies aimed at restoring order in oil-producing communities and protecting critical infrastructure from sabotage. (NAN)
