Nigerian Man Sentenced to 30 Years for Dark Web Drug Operation

A 54-year-old Nigerian man, Oluwole Adegboruwa, living in Las Vegas, Nevada, has been given a 30-year prison sentence for running a major drug trafficking ring through the dark web.

The case also involved a massive financial penalty, with Adegboruwa ordered to forfeit over $20 million and face lifetime supervision after his release.

This sentence is among the biggest financial penalties ever imposed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Utah. U.S. District Judge Jill N.

Parish delivered the sentence after Adegboruwa and his co-defendant, Enrique Isong, 49, from Los Angeles, were found guilty. Isong received a 10-year prison sentence on October 23, 2024.

Between October 2016 and May 2019, Adegboruwa’s illegal operation sold over 300,000 oxycodone pills using dark web platforms, bringing in $9.1 million.

He ran a complex network that handled everything from sourcing and packaging the pills to selling them and managing cryptocurrency transactions.

Jonathan Pullen, a DEA agent, stated that this case shows their commitment to fighting crime on the dark web.

“This sentencing reflects our determination to deliver justice in this hidden world,” he said.

The investigation was led by several U.S. agencies, including the DEA, the IRS, and Postal Inspection Service. It was part of a larger effort by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) to take down major criminal organizations.

U.S. Attorney Trina A. Higgins said, “This case shows our strong focus on dismantling drug networks and protecting communities from harmful substances.”
