Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has reaffirmed his commitment to Robert Sanchez as the team’s first-choice goalkeeper, dismissing speculation over a possible change in the lineup.
Since joining Chelsea, Sanchez has remained Maresca’s go-to option between the posts, despite being replaced by Djordje Petrovic as the starter last season. Petrovic’s loan move to Strasbourg during the summer transfer window paved the way for Sanchez to reclaim the role.
This season, Sanchez faces fresh competition from summer signing Filip Jorgensen. The Danish goalkeeper made his Premier League debut against Southampton and has been a regular in Chelsea’s Conference League matches. Despite these opportunities, Jorgensen has yet to supplant Sanchez as the mainstay in the domestic league.
While Sanchez has made crucial saves for Chelsea, his performances have not been without controversy, as he has been criticized for several high-profile mistakes. Nonetheless, Maresca remains steadfast in his decision.
Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s upcoming match against Brentford on Sunday, Maresca made his position clear. “The idea is not to change,” he said, effectively ending speculation about Jorgensen’s immediate chances of taking the starting role.
Maresca added, “We have two keepers who are both good. Until they maintain the same level, we are happy with that.”
