A 35-year-old man, Sunday Adedeji, has been arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly being in possession of vandalised wire mesh.
Adedeji was apprehended around 11 p.m. on Sunday in the Ile-Epo area of Oke-Odo. According to a statement shared by the RRS on its official X handle, the wire mesh in his possession was part of the materials used by the Lagos State government to secure the roadside in the area.
Following his arrest, Adedeji reportedly told police investigators at the RRS office in Alausa that he had been involved in vandalising public infrastructure since an early age.
He claimed to have made a living by selling various stolen items, including parts of street lights, bridge iron railings, and aluminium from construction sites.
“You cannot go into vandalization of items in Lagos without getting introduced to it by someone or pay for it,” he said. “We usually go out at night, hiding under the cover of darkness to remove or vandalize those metals. Most vandals do not have a home; they sleep under bridges or anywhere.”
The RRS said Adedeji was arrested at a time when the road was clear of traffic, adding that patrols in the area would continue to monitor and respond to such activities.
