The president of French Ligue 1 team LOSC Lille, Olivier Létang, has revealed details into the financial details surrounding the sale of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen joined Lille in 2019 from Belgian club Charleroi for around €13 million after an outstanding season. Scoring 18 goals and providing six assists in 38 games, Osimhen quickly became a hot target for Europe’s top clubs. Eventually, he moved to Napoli for a reported €77.5 million, as listed on Transfermarkt.
Létang shared in a recent interview with L’Equipe TV that Lille earned significantly less from the deal due to various financial complexities.
“The net amount, considering the player’s purchase, four players valued at €20 million but who were worth nothing, intermediaries, and commissions, was about €7 million,” Létang said.
Létang wasn’t president at Lille during the transfer and only joined months later. When he arrived, he realized that certain documents hadn’t been provided to investigators, and the remaining payments were frozen due to complications. The Napoli-Lille deal is now under investigation for irregularities.
Despite the ongoing investigation, Napoli has maintained its innocence. Mattia Grassani, Napoli’s lawyer, previously stated, “Napoli has already been cleared by two levels of justice, with no irregularities found.” He also pointed out that Napoli had no penalties requested.
