The League of Northern Democrats (LND) has condemned the killings in Yelwata, describing them as “gruesome” and “mindless”. In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Dr Ladan Salihu, the group urged the federal government to adopt urgent and radical measures to prevent further violence.
“Beyond rhetoric, we need a coordinated and maximum response to insecurity,” Salihu said, calling for intensified efforts by security agencies.
Senator AbdulAziz Abubakar Yari, representing Zamfara West, echoed similar concerns and stressed the importance of community participation in tackling insecurity.
Speaking on the Yelwata incident, Yari said: “The president is capable of addressing this situation and will do whatever is necessary to restore peace.” He assured the people of Benue that those behind the killings would be brought to justice.
Yari emphasized that protecting communities should be a shared responsibility between government and citizens, urging residents to remain vigilant and cooperative.
