The management of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has withdrawn 273 students due to poor academic performance and expelled six others for examination misconduct.
The institution’s Director of Public Relations and Protocol, Uredo Omale, announced the decisions in a statement released on Monday.
Omale said the actions were taken during the polytechnic board’s 120th meeting, which was held on Thursday, April 17.
The withdrawals span 20 departments and 42 programmes, reflecting a broad review of student results. Board Chairman Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman expressed disappointment that many students failed to meet the institution’s academic standards despite the “conducive learning environment” provided.
In addition to the withdrawals, six students were expelled after the Central Examination Misconduct Committee, chaired by Dr. (Mrs.) Grace Ehimony, submitted its report.
Their expulsions were approved by the board for offences relating to examination misconduct. The institution has not disclosed the specific nature of the misconduct but affirmed that it will continue enforcing its academic regulations to uphold integrity.
