The Niger State Police Command has thwarted a kidnapping plot and apprehended two suspects in Kata, within the New Bwari area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The arrests follow a timely report from a potential victim’s family.
According to Superintendent Wasi’u Abiodun, the police spokesman, the two men “aged between 28 and 30” from Sabon-Gari, Bwari Area Council, allegedly entered the victim’s compound with plans to abduct a woman and demand ransom from her brother.
“On receipt of the alarm, operatives from the Tafa Division were immediately dispatched and successfully intercepted the suspects,” he said.
During the operation, officers recovered a locally made pistol, knives, cartridges, a walkie-talkie, electric tasers, pepper spray, charms, mobile phones and an ATM card.
Investigators also discovered that the weapons and devices had been supplied by an accomplice who impersonated a member of the civilian joint task force.
Both suspects confessed to the kidnapping scheme during interrogation, Superintendent Abiodun added. They are now in custody under investigation and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for further questioning and eventual prosecution.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to combating violent crime and urged members of the public to report suspicious activities promptly.
