Nigerian singer Kingsley Chinweike Okonkwo, popularly known as Kcee, has addressed the recent shade thrown at him by fellow artist Flavour. This came after Flavour indirectly accused an unnamed individual of imitating his musical style, causing speculation among fans and the industry alike.
Flavour’s Subtle Jab Sparks Response
In a post that sparked discussions online, Flavour alluded to a peer in the industry who was allegedly copying his musical style without acknowledgment. While Flavour didn’t explicitly name anyone, it didn’t take long for Kcee to connect the dots and respond assertively.
Kcee’s Strong Rebuttal on Social Media
Kcee, taking to his X handle, dismissed Flavour’s insinuations and reminded him of his long-standing presence in the music industry. Kcee stated, “Bro, We are not on the same level. Pick your battles carefully.” He emphasized that the Igbo cultural music genre wasn’t exclusive to any one artist, including Flavour.
Further addressing Flavour’s remarks, Kcee insisted that he isn’t just part of the Igbo cultural music movement but a significant contributor to it. He warned Flavour against gatekeeping the genre, writing, “Stop trying to gatekeep Igbo culture. You’re not a Custodian. I’ve been in this game before you.”
Advocating for Cultural Authenticity
Kcee’s message conveyed his dedication to celebrating Igbo heritage through music. He made it clear that his intention has always been to honor the culture and contribute authentically to its growth. He continued, “My music celebrates our heritage, and I won’t apologize.”
Wrapping up his response, Kcee drew a vivid comparison by calling Flavour’s criticisms insignificant in the larger scheme of things. “In an ocean of things that matter, you’re like a needle. Get that right,” he stated, adding, “People recognize authenticity. I’ll continue celebrating our culture unapologetically.”
