Jigawa Governor Signs Electricity Regulatory Law

The Governor of Jigawa State, Malam Umar Namadi, has signed the Electricity Regulatory Commission law. This initiative marks a critical milestone in the state’s efforts to address its energy challenges and create a robust framework for sustainable electricity management.

Governor Namadi highlighted the law’s wide-ranging mandate, stating that it encompasses oversight of electricity generation, transmission, system operation, distribution, and supply within the state. The ultimate goal, he said, is to enhance energy access for Jigawa residents while encouraging private sector participation in the power sector.

“This law aims to provide our people with better access to electricity and create an environment that attracts private investment in the energy industry,” the governor said.

One of the key components of the newly signed law is its emphasis on collaboration through public-private partnerships. Governor Namadi noted that such partnerships would be instrumental in improving energy infrastructure and ensuring efficient service delivery to communities across the state.

In addition, the law promotes the development of diverse energy solutions tailored to meet Jigawa’s growing electricity demands. It supports a mix of grid, mini-grid, and off-grid systems while encouraging the use of both renewable and non-renewable energy sources.

“This legislation is designed to foster innovative energy solutions that cater to the unique needs of our communities while ensuring sustainable growth,” the governor added.

Governor Namadi reiterated his administration’s commitment to addressing Jigawa’s energy challenges as part of a broader agenda to stimulate the state’s development. He described reliable electricity access as a cornerstone for economic growth and improved quality of life for residents.
