Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has suspended his Special Adviser on Documentation, Research, and Planning, Dr. Mkor Aondona, pending the outcome of criminal proceedings. The announcement was made in a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Tersoo Kula, in Makurdi.
Dr. Aondona was arrested on Friday, June 20, by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of sextortion, cyberbullying, and blackmail.
In his statement, Governor Alia said the suspension shows his “unwavering commitment to uphold integrity, discipline, and accountability in public service.” He emphasized that any member of his administration found to have engaged in criminal or unethical conduct would “face the full weight of the law.”
The governor assured citizens that there would be no interference or bias in the prosecutorial process and reiterated that his administration would not tolerate any action that brings the government into disrepute or undermines public trust.
He described public office as a “call to serve with honour, transparency, and responsibility” and warned that those who deviate from this standard “would have no place” in his government.
Dr. Aondona is expected to submit himself fully to the legal process to answer the charges.
