Funke Akindele has once again solidified her position as one of Nollywood’s biggest stars with her latest film, Everybody Loves Jennifer (ELJ), achieving a groundbreaking opening day at the Nigerian box office. Released yesterday, the movie grossed an unprecedented ₦45.2 million, setting a new record for the highest opening day for a Nollywood film.
The Nigerian Box Office (NBO) made the announcement via its official X handle, noting that ELJ attracted over 9,400 admissions on its first day, surpassing Akindele’s previous blockbuster, A Tribe Called Judah (ATCJ), which recorded 8,870 admissions on its opening day.
The report indicated that the current figures do not include advanced screenings. Also, ELJ achieved this feat despite missing screenings at key cinema locations, including Genesis Cinemas and a portion of the day at Silverbird Cinemas.
“Everybody Loves Jenifa shattered box office records yesterday. It had the biggest opening day for a Nollywood film with ₦45.2M! ELJ drew 9,409 admissions, surpassing ATCJ’s 8,870 despite not screening at Genesis & missing most of the day at Silverbird Cinemas. All of these are outside of the advanced screening. Please note that the final figures could be slightly more,” NBO revealed.
Everybody Loves Jennifer features an ensemble cast of some of Nollywood’s finest, including Nancy Isime, Bisola Aiyeola, and Stan Nze, among others.
