A chilling audio message circulating on social media has ignited fresh fears in Benue State, as a man identifying himself with Fulani herders warns of retaliatory strikes following recent clashes with local farming communities.
In the recording, the speaker asserts that herders were forced out of several villages after their cattle were killed, and ominously declares, “What happened in Benue is just the beginning, and it’s only the first strike.”
The message has provoked widespread outrage and anxiety online, with many users calling for swift action by security agencies.
Benue has long been the scene of violent confrontations between nomadic herders and crop farmers, disputes that centre on land rights and grazing routes.
Human rights groups have documented numerous incidents in which villages were attacked, resulting in scores of deaths and the displacement of hundreds of families.
The video clip was shared by social commentator Verydarkman, who has regularly highlighted issues of injustice and communal violence.
In his post, he urged authorities to investigate the threats and bolster protection for vulnerable settlements.
