The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) on Wednesday closed the TLS Visa Application Centre in Lagos after alleging that its staff interfered with an ongoing probe into consumer complaints.
Mrs. Boladale Adeyinka, FCCPC’s Director of Surveillance and Investigations, led the operation. She told reporters that the action followed “multiple breaches” of the FCCPC Act, notably an assault on commission operatives and uniformed police officers, as well as a deliberate refusal by TLS officials to comply with lawful summons.
The investigation into TLS—a private firm that provides visa application support to Nigerian applicants—began in March 2025 after the FCCPC received several consumer complaints of paid-for services not being rendered.
According to Mrs. Adeyinka, on March 25 the commission delivered a formal letter requesting that TLS address the grievances through its standard complaint-resolution process. Instead of responding, she said, TLS officers “assaulted FCCPC operatives carrying out their lawful duty of enforcing consumer rights.”
The centre remains sealed pending the outcome of the FCCPC’s inquiry. Consumers who believe they were affected are encouraged to contact the commission’s consumer helpline. The FCCPC has the authority to impose fines or other sanctions if it confirms violations of consumer protection laws.
