As part of efforts to tackle the rising cost of living in Edo State, Governor Monday Okpebholo has launched free bus services for residents. This initiative, implemented through the Edo City Transport Service (ECTS), aligns with the governor’s five-point agenda aimed at improving the welfare of the state’s citizens.
The announcement was made on Monday during a function in Benin City. Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, issued a statement confirming the approval of the free transportation scheme, emphasizing its role in advancing the administration’s policy objectives.
Governor Okpebholo highlighted that the service will span both intra-city and inter-city routes, ensuring coverage across Benin metropolis and the three Senatorial districts of the state: Edo South, Edo Central, and Edo North.
“The bus services will ease transportation stress,” the governor noted. “Our people who plan to move around within the Benin metropolis and beyond will be able to do so without any extra financial burdens.”
He further detailed the routes covered under the scheme:
Edo Central: Areas such as Ekpoma, Iruekpen, Irrua, and Uromi are included.
Edo North: Communities like Agbede, Auchi, Okpella, and Fugar are fully integrated into the plan.
