Edo Police Apprehend Fulani Herder for Attempted Murder of Farmer

A 36-year-old farmer, Adi Benedith, is currently recovering in the hospital after being stabbed in the stomach by a Fulani herder, Idris Ibrahim.

The Edo State Police Command confirmed the incident, which occurred on Benedith’s farm in Ugbaiyon village, Uhunmwode Local Government Area, in a statement issued on Sunday, December 8, 2024.

The Police Command spokesperson, SP Moses Yamu, revealed that the attack took place on December 3, 2024.

According to the statement, police operatives from the Okhuaihe Division responded swiftly to a distress call reporting the stabbing at a farmland near the Benin-Agbor Road. Upon arrival at the scene, officers apprehended Idris Ibrahim, a 25-year-old Fulani herder, as he attempted to flee.

“The suspect admitted to committing the crime and will be charged to court accordingly,” the police statement noted. Meanwhile, the injured farmer was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency medical care, where he is now receiving treatment.
