Nollywood actor, director, and politician Desmond Oluwashiola Elliot has faced public speculation following allegations of being romantically involved with Nigerian billionaire Mike Adenuga. The claims, which surfaced on social media and quickly circulated online, have ignited debate and reactions among Nigerians, prompting Elliot to respond publicly.
Elliot was recently listed among prominent Nigerian figures accused of homosexual relationships by a controversial blogger known as Gistlover. This list, which includes the names of several high-profile individuals, has fueled widespread social media conversations, with users debating the legitimacy and motivations behind these accusations.
Elliot’s Response to the Allegations
Speaking in an interview with TVC that has since gone viral, Elliot responded to the claims, dismissing them as baseless gossip. He expressed that he has no intention of addressing such rumors in detail, as he finds them irrelevant to his personal and professional life.
“Why would I respond to allegations made against me when it did not reduce or increase my life?” Elliot stated.
“It is an opinion that is being conceived. And I don’t think it is necessary for me to come out and say it’s true or not true; as long as I’m affecting people positively, I’m good.” He added
He emphasizes his commitment to maintaining a positive impact on others through his work in entertainment and politics.
“If you feel you identify as something, as long as it’s within the law, people don’t have to accept it, do you,” he said. “So let me say right here, I’m straight… you can never have anyone straighter than me.”
He urged the Nigerian government to consider regulating such platforms, suggesting that bloggers like Gistlover often contribute to a toxic environment by spreading unverified stories.
Elliot warned of the potentially damaging effects these platforms can have on individuals’ reputations and the broader societal discourse.
“If some people want to enjoy themselves through publicity, that’s left to them, but I don’t care really. Do you and enjoy yourself but do it within the law and with respect to your neighbours,” he said.
Desmond Elliot denies the rumors, dismissing them as inconsequential, while also advocating for a respectful and law-abiding society where individuals can live authentically.
