An Ikorodu Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered the remand of 23-year-old Victor Faleye in a correctional centre, pending legal advice on charges of defilement.
Chief Magistrate B.A. Sonuga declined to take Faleye’s plea and directed that his file be forwarded to the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for review. The matter has been adjourned until June 30 for further proceedings.
Prosecuting counsel ASP Aminu Isaac told the court that Faleye allegedly committed the offences on or before January 10 at around 9 p.m. in the Igbogbo area of Ikorodu. According to the prosecution, the defendant defiled a 15-year-old girl and subsequently impregnated her.
The charge filed against Faleye cites Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, under which defilement of a minor is an offence. No address for the defendant was provided in court documents.
Faleye will remain in custody at the correctional facility until the next hearing, when the DPP’s advice is expected to inform whether the case will proceed to trial or follow an alternative course.
