City rivals Moses Orkuma FC and St. Michaels FC Ameladu will contest the final of the eighth Moses Orkuma Unity Cup on Sunday, June 22, at the JS Tarka Stadium in Gboko.Moses Orkuma FC booked their first-ever appearance in the final since the tournament’s inception in 2018 by edging out Fidei Poly FC 2–1 in their semi-final on Tuesday, June 17.
In the other semi-final, St. Michaels held Hopeland FC Vandeikya to a 0–0 draw before prevailing 5–4 in a penalty shoot-out.
Moses Orkuma, a Nigerian international and sole sponsor of the competition, spoke to Daily Trust about the tournament’s progress and purpose.
“This competition is capital intensive, but I derive immense joy from giving back to the community that shaped my career,” the former US Monastir captain said.
Orkuma, who recently signed a two-year contract with Moroccan side Raja Casablanca, reiterated his ambition for the Unity Cup.
“The aim of this tournament is to scout for young talented players and give them the opportunity to play for top clubs in Nigeria and abroad.” He added that the 2025 edition has already yielded results, with several participants moving on to foreign clubs. “I’ve identified at least eight quality players this year who will be prepared for the international market,” he noted.
Ahead of Sunday’s final, each of the four semi-finalists will receive a set of branded jerseys. The champions will take home ₦500,000, while the first runners-up will receive ₦300,000. The third and fourth placed teams will earn ₦200,000 and ₦100,000, respectively. In addition to the team prizes, individual awards for Best Goalkeeper, Most Valuable Player, Best Behaved Team, and Highest Goalscorer will be presented.
Kick-off for the final is scheduled for 3:00 pm on June 22. Both clubs will be looking to cap their Unity Cup campaigns with victory and continue the competition’s growing tradition of nurturing local talent.
