On Monday, June 16, 2025, former Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs Aliyu Audu appeared on Channels Television’s “Sunrise Daily,” where he declared that the 2027 general election would no longer be an “Emi lo kan” (“my turn”) affair but rather a “Gbogbo wa lo kan” (“our turn”) contest for every Nigerian voter.
In a follow-up interview explaining his decision, Audu said he resigned from President Bola Tinubu’s administration in order to campaign against the president’s re-election bid, framing his departure as a commitment to democratic pluralism rather than personal grievance.
Audu formally submitted his one-page resignation letter on Sunday, June 8, 2025, noting that it would take effect immediately and outlining his reasons for stepping down from the presidency’s communications team.
In the letter, he expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve under his leadership.
He went on to affirm that he was honored to have assisted the administration with public communication and pledged to continue praying for the government’s success and Nigeria’s advancement.
The presidency has not yet responded to Audu’s resignation. His departure comes just three months after Hakeem Baba-Ahmed resigned as the Vice President’s Special Adviser on Political Matters.
