Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Saturday joined a gathering of Nigeria’s elder statesmen and political figures to mark the 70th birthday of Alhaji Ahmadu Adamu Muazu, former governor of Bauchi State and one-time National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party.
In a post on X, Atiku recalled his time in office alongside Muazu, noting their collaboration from 1999 to 2007 “to lay the foundation for good governance and a private sector-led economic growth for Nigeria.” He extended his congratulations and best wishes for continued health and vitality.
Among those in attendance were former President Olusegun Obasanjo, ex-Head of State Yakubu Gowon and current Vice President Kashim Shettima. Also present were former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, NNPP national leader Rabiu Kwankwaso, and other prominent Nigerians.
Atiku’s tribute highlighted Muazu’s role during his tenure as Vice President, emphasizing their joint efforts with sitting governors of that era.
“I joined my boss, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Head of State Yakubu Gowon, and Vice President Kashim Shettima, along with many other prominent Nigerian leaders, in paying tribute to Alhaji Ahmadu Adamu Muazu,” he wrote.
The event served both as a celebration of Muazu’s personal milestone and a reunion of the political generation that guided Nigeria through its early years of democratic governance.
Adamu Muazu served two terms as governor of Bauchi State before leading the PDP at the national level. His 70th birthday brought together figures whose public lives have intersected over more than two decades of Nigeria’s political history.
