The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has announced power cuts in many areas of Abuja and its surroundings. The interruptions will happen between January 6 and January 21, 2025. This is to allow the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) to relocate some power towers along the Outer Southern Expressway for their road projects.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has also said it will ration power during this time. This is because of the FCDA’s ongoing road dualisation along the Apo area, which needs eight 132KV and 33KV power towers to be moved.
Areas that will be affected include Lugbe, Airport Road, Games Village, the National Stadium, Jabi, Apo, Kubwa, Nyanya, Keffi, and other parts of Abuja. Some key locations like the EFCC headquarters, Coca Cola, the American Embassy Quarters, and the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) will also face interruptions.
Power cuts will happen daily between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM during the period. AEDC and TCN have apologized to customers for the inconvenience and promised to reduce the downtime as much as possible.
