South-South Leader Edwin Clark Passes Away at 97

Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, who was a prominent leader from Nigeria’s South-South region and former Federal Commissioner for Information, has died at the age of 97. He passed away on Monday, February 17, 2025.

His family announced his death in a statement signed by his brother, Prof. C. C. Clark, and his son, Penawei Clark.

The statement reads: “The Clark-Fuludu Bekederemo family of Kiagbodo Town, Delta State, wishes to announce the passing of Chief (Dr.) Sen. Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, OFR, CON, on Monday, February 17, 2025.”

The family further expressed gratitude for the prayers and support they have received and noted that further details about his burial will be shared later.

Chief Clark’s death comes shortly after the passing of Afenifere leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, who died at 96 on Friday, February 14, 2025.

Both men were influential figures in Nigeria, advocating for justice, democracy, and national unity throughout their lives.

Their immense contributions have left lasting impacts on the nation’s political and social landscape.
