Nigerian Afrobeat musician Femi Kuti has unveiled plans for his forthcoming album, Journey Through Life, set to release on April 25. This project marks a is different in Kuti’s illustrious career, as it is the first album he has entirely self-produced.
The album looks into themes of family, personal growth, and Kuti’s experiences as an artist, activist, and father.
Kuti describes the work as a summary of my life from my childhood to adulthood, emphasizing the pivotal role of family throughout his journey.
He reflects on the challenges that can distance loved ones and underscores the importance of love and forgiveness in overcoming life’s obstacles.
Accompanying the album announcement, Kuti has released the lead single, After 24 Years. The track offers a critique of Nigeria’s political landscape, with lyrics stating, after 24 years… these politicians failed the nation.
The song reflects on the nation’s leadership from 1999 to 2023, expressing disappointment in the political class’s performance during this period.
The album comprises ten tracks, including titles such as Chop And Run, Corruption Na Stealing, and Politics Don Expose Them, with different facets of societal and personal themes.
Femi Kuti, the eldest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, has been a prominent figure in the Afrobeat scene, known for his energetic performances and socially conscious lyrics.
