A tragic fire in the early hours of Friday claimed the lives of three family members, a husband, his wife, and their grandson in the Ori-Eru area of Idikan.
The fire, which started in the upper floor of a two-story residential building, engulfed six rooms, causing extensive damage. According to the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, firefighters received a distress call at 3:46 a.m. from a resident named Hassan.
Yemi Akinyinka, the General Manager of the fire agency, explained, “When we arrived, the upper floor was completely ablaze. Our team worked quickly to put out the fire and stop it from spreading further.”
While the firefighters managed to save five individuals and prevent damage to the ground floor and nearby properties, three lives were tragically lost. Investigations suggest the fire started from a naked flame the family had used to keep warm before falling asleep.
Authorities, including the police, led by CSP Olaniyan Jibola, and the Amotekun Corps, led by Mr. Gbenga Akinyemi, were also present to assist with rescue efforts and maintain order at the scene.
