A Shari’a Court in Magajin Gari, Kaduna State, has officially dissolved a 45-year-old marriage between Ilani Alhaji and Halima Ilani following accusations of infidelity. The decision was delivered on Monday by Judge Malam Anas Khalifa after attempts to reconcile the couple out of court failed.
Halima Ilani, the complainant, approached the court seeking an end to her decades-long marriage. She expressed her dissatisfaction with her husband’s behavior, citing his accusations of infidelity made publicly in the presence of their children.
“I have endured this marriage for the sake of my children, even though he has not fulfilled his duties as a husband for the past 20 years,” Halima said. “But now, I am old and have no energy for these kinds of issues. His constant suspicion of my loyalty is the most painful part. I am no longer interested in this marriage.”
After hearing both sides, Judge Khalifa affirmed the dissolution of the union based on a single pronouncement of divorce made by Ilani Alhaji, the defendant. The judge emphasized that reconciliation efforts had been exhausted, leaving dissolution as the final recourse.
