22 suspects have been arrested following the attack on a passenger bus on June 20, 2025, in Mangun Village, Mangu Local Government Area, the Plateau State Police Command has confirmed.
According to a statement issued by Alabo Alfred, spokesman for the command, police received credible intelligence at approximately 9:47 pm that an angry mob had intercepted a bus carrying travellers from Zaria, Kaduna State. The vehicle was en route to Qua’an Pan Local Government Area for a wedding ceremony when it inadvertently veered off course.
“Upon receipt of this intelligence, the Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command, immediately directed the Divisional Police Officer, Mangu Division, to mobilise men and swiftly race to the scene,” Alfred’s statement read. “On reaching the scene, our men, in collaboration with other security agencies, quickly dispersed the angry mob and rescued 21 victims and rushed them to the hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.”
Preliminary investigations revealed that after stopping the bus, the mob set the vehicle ablaze. Several passengers lost their lives in the blaze, while seven others sustained varying degrees of injuries. The rescued victims were transferred to a nearby hospital; their current medical condition remains under review by attending physicians.
Alfred noted that the arrests were made in connection with the violent disruption and destruction of the bus. “A total of 22 suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack,” he said.
In closing, the statement urged all citizens—particularly young people—to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or any recognized security agency.
The Plateau State Police Command has pledged to continue its investigation and to ensure that those responsible for the attack face the full weight of the law.
