A tragic accident occurred today along the Funai-Abakaliki road, claiming the life of a young man identified as a Microbiology graduate of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike (AE-FUNAI).
Eyewitnesses report that the accident happened in broad daylight. A source who was in a tricycle (keke) nearby shared that the incident involved two cars that appeared to be racing.
According to her account, one of the cars tried to overtake their tricycle at high speed. In the chaos, the car seemed to lose control and crashed while trying to dodge a machine man, who was on the other side of the road.
“There were two cars, and it looked like they were friends. They were driving fast. One of them was trying to overtake us in the keke while he was trying to overtake the car already overtaking us when he suddenly noticed the machine man. It was like there wasn’t enough space for him to move,” the eyewitness explained.
Reports suggest the car’s automatic brake system failed, causing it to veer off the road and crash. Unfortunately, the young man, who had recently graduated in 2024, could not survive the impact. Bystanders noted that other passengers in the vehicle came out unharmed.
Witnesses described the incident as horrifying. “The machine man had no choice but to veer into the bush,” the source added. “It felt like the whole thing was unavoidable because of how fast everything happened.”
