South African Singer Tyla Breaks Records, Surpasses Beyoncé as Most-Streamed Black Female Artist of 2024

South African music sensation Tyla has etched her name in history by breaking Beyoncé’s record for the most-streamed album by a Black female artist in 2024. Tyla’s self-titled debut album has amassed an impressive 1.565 billion streams on Spotify, overtaking Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter, which garnered 1.564 billion streams.

This achievement also secures Tyla’s album as the all-time most-streamed album by a female African artist, further solidifying her global impact.

The album’s success is bolstered by its lead single, “Water,” which has become a cultural phenomenon, nearing a billion streams on Spotify. The song’s popularity earned it the inaugural Best African Music Performance award at the 66th Grammy Awards, marking a significant milestone for African music on the global stage.

Despite these accolades, Tyla’s album and its deluxe version were notably absent from the recently announced 67th Grammy nominations. Fans and critics alike have expressed surprise at the snub, considering the groundbreaking success of the project.

Tyla remains unfazed by the Grammy snub, continuing her dominance as the most-awarded African artist of 2024. This year alone, she has amassed an extraordinary 20 awards, showcasing her wide-ranging impact and appeal. Her accolades include a Grammy Award, three MTV Europe Music Awards, two BET Awards, one MTV Video Music Award, a Billboard Global Force Award, and four South African Music Awards. Additionally, she has earned a Cultural and Creative Industry Award, a DStv Content Creator Award, a Metro FM Music Award, an Africa Arts Entertainment Award, two Basadi in Music Awards, and a South African Style Award.
