Manchester City midfielder Rodri has revealed that winning the prestigious Ballon d’Or has served as a significant motivator during his recovery from an ACL injury sustained three months ago.
The Spanish international, whose performances were instrumental in Manchester City’s Premier League and UEFA Super Cup victories last season, also played a key role in helping Spain secure the Euro 2024 title during the summer.
Rodri’s stellar campaign included nine goals and 14 assists across 50 appearances in all competitions, earning him the Ballon d’Or ahead of Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior.
In an interview with Four Four Two, Rodri shared updates on his rehabilitation and his determination to return to action before the season concludes.
“Everything seems to be going well with my rehab. Because of my injury, the award has been like a bottle of oxygen for me,” he said.
While the midfielder acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding his timeline for recovery, he expressed hope to rejoin his team in time to make a late-season impact.
“I want to come back this season; that would be important for me. I don’t know if I can, but I’d like to be involved for a month or two and finish the season,” Rodri added.
