Rita Edochie Denounces Death Rumors About Osita Iheme

Nollywood icon Rita Edochie has expressed deep frustration over the repeated spread of false death rumors about her colleague, Osita Iheme, famously known as Pawpaw. The veteran actress took to Instagram to call out the misinformation, lamenting the frequency with which such fake news circulates.

Edochie revealed that she recently encountered this rumor for the second time, with false reports claiming the beloved actor had passed away. Shockingly, she observed that some fans were quick to believe the hoax, flooding social media comment sections with mourning messages.

In her Instagram post, Edochie addressed the wider issue of false death reports in Nollywood, emphasizing how actors have become frequent targets of such harmful rumors. She shared her personal experience of being subjected to similar misinformation, recalling an instance when a photo of her from a movie set was used to falsely claim her demise.

“This rumor has come up before,” she wrote. “A couple of days ago, it came up for the second time. Pictures of my great son and veteran colleague, Osita Iheme, popularly known as Pawpaw, trended everywhere on social media with captions that they were dead. Crazy netizens believed the fake gist and began commenting RIP on themselves.”

Edochie used the opportunity to criticize the misuse of social media, stating that while the platform has created opportunities for many Nigerian youths, it has also contributed significantly to societal harm. She called for greater responsibility in how people use social media, warning against the spread of unverified and damaging information.

“I have said it before, and I’m saying it again: social media has literally done more harm than good to society. The abuse is getting out of hands,” she added.
