A deadly crash involving a J5 Ford bus (FKJ 724 YC) and a Mercedes truck (FKJ 746 YC) occurred earlier today near Ilubirin, heading toward Sura on the Lagos Third Mainland Bridge. The tragic incident claimed one life and left four others injured.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), in a statement signed by Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, confirmed the details of the crash and rescue efforts. According to the statement, LASTMA officers arrived quickly at the scene and led the rescue operation with the help of bystanders. Five people were pulled from the wreckage, but sadly, one of them succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident.
The victim who passed away was reportedly trapped inside the J5 Ford bus, which was loaded with pepper and other perishable goods. The other four victims were injured and have been handed over to medical teams for treatment.
Preliminary investigations suggest the crash was caused by brake failure in the J5 Ford bus, which was reportedly speeding at the time. The resulting collision with the Mercedes truck caused significant damage and the tragic loss of life.
Emergency response teams, including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigerian Police Force, and the Lagos Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), worked together to clear the scene and provide medical aid.
