The Football Association (FA) has launched an investigation into the conduct of Tottenham Hotspur supporters during their dramatic 4-3 Premier League loss to Chelsea on Sunday. The investigation centers on incidents of objects being thrown onto the pitch at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The highly charged encounter saw Spurs fans in the South Stand provided with pieces of paper to form a giant tifo that spelled out the club’s Latin motto, “Audere est Facere” (“To dare is to do”). However, some of these papers were later used to disrupt the game, particularly when Chelsea players approached the South Stand to take corners.
Reports also indicate that other objects were thrown from the stands, prompting the FA to act. Referee Anthony Taylor’s match report and stadium footage will be reviewed as part of the investigation, with the possibility of further sanctions against the club.
The game itself was a rollercoaster. Tottenham surged into an early 2-0 lead, thanks to quick-fire goals from Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski. Chelsea responded with a stunning comeback, as Jadon Sancho’s strike, two penalties from Cole Palmer, and a goal by Enzo Fernandez turned the match on its head. A late consolation goal from Son Heung-min brought some relief to the home fans but couldn’t prevent defeat.
