The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has summoned Wahab and Raheem Okoya, sons of billionaire businessman Chief Razaq Okoya, over allegations of naira abuse.
EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed the invitation to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday. He stated that the brothers are to report to the commission’s Lagos office at 15A Awolowo Road on Monday, January 13, by 10 a.m. for questioning.
The EFCC’s move comes after a video showing the brothers spraying bundles of N1,000 notes went viral on social media. The clip, which served as a promotional video for Raheem’s new song, “Credit Alert,” featured the duo dressed in white traditional outfits.
A mobile policeman holding stacks of crisp naira notes was also seen in the video as the brothers danced and flung money into the air.
With many Nigerians criticizing the act as a violation of laws against naira abuse, netizens expressed concerns over accountability, questioning whether the law would apply to the brothers given their father’s wealth and influence.
The brothers are expected to meet with the Head of the Special Operations Team to explain their actions.
