Baroni Highlights Areas for Dele-Bashiru’s Improvement

Lazio head coach Marco Baroni has commended Nigerian midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru for his impressive displays during Lazio’s recent victories over Napoli but pointed out areas where the player needs to improve to excel further in Italian football.

Dele-Bashiru played a crucial role in Lazio’s 1-0 Serie A victory over Napoli on Sunday at the Diego Maradona Stadium, following a commanding 3-1 win in the Coppa Italia just days earlier. In the league clash, the 24-year-old delivered a near-perfect performance, completing 97% of his passes, winning all his dribbles and ground duels, and contributing significantly on defense.

His defensive efforts included two clearances, a blocked shot, and two interceptions, with minimal possession losses. According to Sofascore, only three Lazio players earned a higher rating in the match.

Dele-Bashiru also impressed in the Coppa Italia encounter, playing 73 minutes and demonstrating his ability to influence games on multiple fronts.

While praising Dele-Bashiru’s potential, Baroni emphasized that adapting to Serie A’s rigorous demands remains a challenge.

“For us, there is only work. We have these players to carry forward in three competitions,” Baroni stated during a press conference. “Dele-Bashiru has great potential, but it’s clear he has to find the rhythm of the match, the mentality, the physicality, and the quality. It’s not easy to transition from a different league to the Italian one, where mistakes are not tolerated.”

Baroni added that he is committed to nurturing all his players, not just the core group, to ensure Lazio’s success across Serie A, Coppa Italia, and European competitions.

Currently on loan from Turkish club Hatayspor, Dele-Bashiru has quickly adapted to life in Rome, contributing two goals and two assists in 11 appearances across all competitions. His performances suggest a bright future, with the potential to become a key figure for Lazio if he continues to develop under Baroni’s guidance.
